KADUNA NORTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT

Alhaji Suleiman Abdu-Kwari of All Progressive Congress (APC) was on Monday declared winner of Kaduna North Senatorial District election held on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Abdu-Kwari, the Commissioner of Finance in the State defeated the incumbent senator representing the area, Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi who defected to PDP just last year.

Announcing the result at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Zonal Office in Zaria, Kaduna State, the Returning Officer, Prof. Muhammad Magaji-Garba of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria said the APC candidate polled 411,498 votes to defeat other contestants.

He said People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Suleiman Hunkuyi scored 181,955 votes to emerge second in the contest.

The Returning Officer said all together 20 candidates contested for the senatorial election.

Magaji-Garba said: “Kwari Suleiman Abdu of the APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected today, 25th February 2019.”

KADUNA CENTRAL SENATORIAL DISTRICT

Shehu Sani, the lawmaker currently representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has lost his bid to return to the Senate.

The senator, who contested under the flagship of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), lost to his rival, Uba Sani.

Uba Sani, an aide to Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, contested under the All Progressives Congress (APC) having emerged from a controversial primary in the party.

At the end of collation early Tuesday, the Returning Officer, Zakari Muhammed, declared Uba Sani winner of the senatorial contest.

Uba Sani polled 355, 242 votes while leading in five local governments.

KADUNA SOUTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT 

Senator Danjuma Tella Laah of the People Democratic Party, PDP has been declared winner of the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District.

Announcing the result in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Headquarters, the Returning Officer, Dr. Suleiman M. Yashim said that Laah polled 268, 287 votes to defeat his main challenger, Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Barnabas Bala Bantex of the APC who scored 133, 923 votes.

Shekari Rijo Shekari of Social Democratic Party (SDP) scored 9, 609 votes to finished third.

With his re-election, Senator Laah is returning to the Senate for the second time, the first time in the history of southern Kaduna Senatorial District since 1999.
